Keep cool and work on with improved work conditions

Client

A global company with more than 100 years of experience as a supplier and strategic partner in the mining industry. ME Elecmetal excels at innovation and technology and is recognized for their sustainable delivery of integrated solutions, adding value to mining processes.

Opportunity

With Arizona’s climate and the nature of operations at ME Elecmetal, the staff lacked a comfortable space away from surrounding heat and noise to take breaks or provide a location for department personnel to work.

Design PROCESS

ReSolve worked to quickly make any design revisions prior to building in order to meet all requirements as the scope of the project changed.
— Project Engineer, ME Elecmetal

The options considered to provide a cool and quiet solution included a stick frame build out, repurposing other areas, and modular construction. While repurposing another area would have been the least expensive, proximity to the applicable department and work area was important and unobtainable. Stick frame construction compared to modular would be much more intrusive to the site and business operations with a much longer build time and involvement of various trades.

Design Solution

Implementing a modular in-pant office made the most sense for this end users area and needs. With minimal floorspace available and controlled temperature as a priority many alterations were discussed with the ReSolve design consultant. The wall insulation and HVAC was upgraded and two T-Grid compatible fans were added to ensure adequate cooling, air circulation, and improve temperature management efficiently. A layer of soundboard within the wall panels was added and the window panes were upgraded to ½’’ insulated with wire guards as well. This solution can be used in various applications, including as CMM or equipment rooms, clean rooms, open top wall partitions within a factory or warehouse, or as similar to this scenario; as finished office space for personnel in better proximity to their work area.

Impact

ME Elecmetal now has comfortable office space for an additional 3 employees and is hopeful to have little to no heat stress related occurrences this summer as a result to this addition. Having a space for cooling and electrical capabilities to house freezers and fridges much closer to their work area has increased employee satisfaction and may improve employee retention.
