They are the creators of innovative new products that set the standard in the Honda / Acura performance aftermarket while delivering the highest level of product quality and functionality.

Opportunity

With significant growth in both manufacturing and retail sales came a not so welcomed problem. Inventory was being stored in various locations around the facility, which made it difficult to find, manage, and keep organized. Speed Factory couldn’t spare to lose working floor space but needed additional square footage that was easily accessible.

Design PROCESS

Permitting process was slow given the backlog with the local municipality; ReSolve was contracted to obtain permitting, and worked to keep the project on track.

An important consideration during the design process was height clearance. Allowing necessary room for the equipment below while maintaining code requirements at mezzanine level. Facility columns also posed an obstacle and were worked around by utilizing cantilever mezzanine sections. Seismic IV requirements were accounted for with appropriate offsets as well as proper egress to adhere with code

Design Solution

Steel Mezzanines are utilized to gain additional floorspace without relocating or building out. The added space is most commonly used for storage, office space, or assembly/manufacturing activities. A mezzanine was the obvious choice for our end user since additional racking and shelves; while provided the storage needed, would compromise floor space and not improve accessibility. A catwalk married up to the existing facility stair system and a thoughtfully positioned new stair system provided ease of access and minimal impact to the shop floor. For effortless operations, a 72 inch bi-part swing gate was installed for pallet placement and Resindek was applied for a finished surface and the ability to use a pallet jack on the mezzanine decking.

Impact

This solution has provided ease of access to smaller goods without the need for tall rolling ladders or forklift. Organization and operation flow throughout the facility has improved and the storage mezzanine has unexpectedly resulted in a higher level of inventory control and security being away from foot traffic!
